The Bomb Squad recently received a grant of $108,540 from the New York State Department of Homeland Security. The grant will be used to fund the purchase of a robot that can be operated with wireless technology, a Portable Digital X-Ray System and special tools used to neutralize explosive devices.
County police officers from the Special Response Team are participating in a new counterterrorism initiative in Westchester. The initiative features a mobile “Hercules Team” of highly trained police officers who will be providing an added, and unpredictable, layer of security at transportation hubs and busy shopping areas around Westchester.
These initiatives and others are part of the Department of Public Safety’s commitment to serve as an ever-present resource for local law-enforcement in Westchester. The Department of Public Safety provides an estimated $6 million in shared services to local municipalities and their police departments each year.
