The Westchester County Police Advisory Board is made up of nine County residents – six appointed by the County Executive and three by the Board of Legislators. In addition, a member of the Board of Legislators may be appointed by the Chairman to serve as an ex-officio (non-voting) member of the Police Board.

The Police Advisory Board is tasked with:

  • evaluating the qualifications of candidates being considered for appointment as Commissioner/Sheriff of the Department of Public Safety
  • advising the commissioner/sheriff or designees on matters affecting the Department;
  • reviewing a monthly report of activities of the Department
  • referring any complaints it receives about any member of the Department to the commissioner/sheriff for investigation
  • appointing hearing officers to preside over any disciplinary hearings.

The Police Board meets monthly. Information on the date, time and location of the meeting is posted in advance on Westchester County Boards and Commissions.
