Westchester Coalition
The Westchester Coalition for Drug & Alcohol-Free Youth was formed in 2003 with the vision of creating an ‘umbrella coalition’ that could assist, educate, and support local anti-drug coalitions, drug abuse prevention councils, and school-based safety committees throughout the county. Following concerns about underage drinking and drug use in the County, which escalated when a local high school student died at an underage drinking party, County officials created the program under the direction of the Westchester County Office of Drug Abuse Prevention and STOP-DWI.
The Mission of the Westchester Coalition for Drug & Alcohol-Free Youth is to create a strong and healthy community where the social norms are changed to minimize the impact of substance abuse among youth and adults. The Coalition fosters communication, community collaboration and opportunities for youth that promote and sustain drug-free and healthy living in a trusting, non-judgmental environment.
By employing multiple prevention strategies, the Coalition seeks to address the factors in our community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promote the factors that minimize it.
